Item 5, page 3 of the 11/4 DP Times caught my eye. “City Council Candidates File Second Round of Campaign Finances.” Michelle Brough lists many corporations and other entities. Makes you wonder. What do these donors expect in return?
On the other hand, Penny Maynard’s filing is significant for what it does NOT tell you. She notified the other candidates that she had received over $2000 in contributions, but not until AFTER the filing deadline. Therefore, we will have no idea how much over $2000 she received or who contributed until AFTER the election.
Contrast PAUL WYATT and DEBRA LEWIS donor lists. Our donor lists contain only individuals and a recognizable non-profit.
COMPARE TO FOOD LABELS:
The ingredients label of a food product gives you valuable insight into what you can expect from the product you are buying.
Here’s a good rule of thumb: Look for recognizable ingredients like flour, salt, sugar. If you can’t figure out what’s inside: 1) be suspicious of the marketing fluff; and 2) put the product back on the shelf.
That same logic applies to donor lists: A list filled with LLCs, Inc.s, PACs, entity names and other components whose source of funds are unidentifiable should raise a red flag. You have no idea what you’re actually getting. 1) Disregard the marketing fluff; and 2) put the “product” back on the shelf.
PAUL WYATT AND DEBRA LEWIS: INDEPENDENT & TRANSPARENT:
Our donor lists contain only actual people’s names and easily identifiable non-profit groups such as Orange County Professional Firefighters Assoc. We are INDEPENDENT, OPEN AND TRANSPARENT. We will serve only Dana Point RESIDENTS.
